La Mirada, CA — This was the first game of our home tournament called Mirada Madness with host just over 60 teams in all divisions. The girls went up against neighboring city Fullerton Hills. Pool play rules are 1hr 15 min game drop dead. Meaning when time has expired the game stops and the score will be reverted back to the last inning. Because of that rule Coach Martin on the toss and elected to be visitors to get the first at bat and try to put pressure on Fullerton. Good call coach! In the first inning, Faith did what Faith does. She had a great lead off at bat drawing a lot of pitches and recording yet another walk. Moving up in the Line up was Hot bat Abby. Batting in the two spot, she ripped the ball over the shortstops head and scoring Faith from first. The hit ended up in a close play at third where Abby slid and knocked the ball out of the players had to recored a Triple. With Abby waiting at third our Clean up hitter Rylee hit A first pitch fastball into left center field for a double scoring Abby. Bats were on fire in the First. However, Fullerton answered back in the bottom half of the inning with 4 of their own to take a two run lead. Moose lead off the second inning with another great at bat drawing a lead off walk and stealing two bases to get herself into scoring position at third base. Which two outs and Moose still at third, Evie was able to get on base with a walk and steal of her own. Runners on first and second Emily hit a slow dribbler to second which resulted in two RBI's and advancing all the way to third due to over throws. Way to put the ball in play with two outs! But the Girls weren't done. Lefty Emma Ortiz hit the ball the other way scoring Emily and advancing to second on the over throw. 3 runs for La Mirada in the inning putting them up by 1. Emily found her groove in the circle and the girls backed her up shouting out the Fullerton girls in the bottom half. With time running out La mirada put up 3 more runs which did not count due to the drop dead rule. great way to start the tournament girls!
