Eagles Earn Senior Night Win over Downey!

Eagles Earn Senior Night Win over Downey!

Everything the Eagles have been working for all season came together in yesterday's game vs. Downey. From the very first whistle, the players had their heads in the game and played their hearts out. The entire first half was back and forth, the goal differential never extending beyond one and the half ending 8-7 in Gundo's favor. The Eagles pulled ahead early in the second half to lead by 4, but Downey answered to tie it at 11 with 10 minutes in the game. An Eagle goal by Morgan Wood at 5 minutes put Gundo ahead, but Downey was quick to tie it back up 20 seconds later. Abi Layne finished a shot with 2:30 to go, but Downey scored again with 1:17 left. The Eagles lost the draw but came up with a CTO and beautiful transition down the field. A strategic possession timeout called by Coach Chuck with 30 seconds left allowed the girls to take a breath and set up a play, and they went back out there with looks of determination unlike any other. The goalie saved the shot, but Grace Bonney came up with the rebound and buried the ball in the back of the net with 5 seconds left in the contest.

Eagles Season Heating Up

Neither the heat nor nine missing players could stop the Eagles from taking the W against El Camino Real CHS last Saturday. Shoutout to our JV players Storey Noble (who scored!), Fiona Elliott, Danielle Trujillo, and Giselle Murphy who helped fill out our roster and played a critical role in the victory. They learned all our plays on the bus ride over, and executed them effectively an hour later on the field. Morgan Wood and Grace Bonney were quite the dynamic duo throughout the game, as Grace assisted 3 of Morgan's 7 goals, and Morgan assisted 2 of Grace's 4 goals! In the first half, the Eagles held El Camino Real scoreless for 23 minutes, and they extended their 7-2 lead to 14-6 to end the game. Freshman defender Kat Luetgens also scored her first goal for the Eagles (on her birthday weekend)! The transitions up the field were seamless, and we were seeing caused turnovers all over the field. The Eagles took control early and maintained it throughout the game. We'll take that W over Coachella Weekend One any day.

Eagles Tie Pali High at Home

Eagles Tie Pali High at Home

The Eagles put up a fight against Palisades in an exciting back and forth game. At the half, the Eagles were down by two and clawed their way back and went up by two with 15 minutes to go. The Dolphins tied it back up, prompting the Eagles to inch ahead again, but the Dolphins tied it again with 7 minutes left in the game. An unlucky call with a minute left called back the goal that gave the Eagles a 9-8 lead, and the Palisades goalie saved the 8m shot, ending the game in a tie. Outside of league, there is no overtime, but El Segundo is excited to take on Palisades again next season.

Eagles Suffer Tough Loss at Marlborough

The Eagles' early lead was short-lived as the Mustangs answered right back and held the Eagles scoreless for 15 minutes in the first half. The score was 5-7 at the half, and a mid-game four-goal scoring run wasn't enough to lift the Eagles back up despite holding the Mustangs for 10 minutes. The effects of spring break were apparent as the Eagles struggled to keep possession throughout the game, but we've dusted off our sticks and are ready to take on Palisades on Friday.
