Capo Valley Edges Knights

The Lady Knights softball team lost a tight game against Capistrano Valley High School in a pool-play game in the Laguna Hills Softball Tournament by a score of 8-7. The Cougars scored three runs in the top of the first to grab an early lead. Foothill answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Arissa Calvillo and Shannon Cunningham each singled to center. Stella Turner then launched a triple to left field on the first pitch, driving in both runners. Alyson Crawford followed with another single, scoring courtesy runner Nicole Zerkel to tie the game. After a scoreless second inning, Capo Valley strung together four hits, a hit batter, and an error to jump out to a 7-3 lead in the top half of the third inning. Again, the Knights answered with their own rally. Cunningham led off with her second single and scored on a double by Turner. Zerkel advanced to third base on a wild pitch and Delaney O'Donoghue walked. Courtesy runner Jade Conner stole second base and followed Zerkel home when Eva Chahbazian singled to left and advanced to second base on the throw to the plate. Unfortunately, the Knights couldn't get Chahbazian across to tie the game. The Knights threatened in the fourth inning, but could not score Sam Polowski from second after she started the inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Foothill's next game will be a bracket elimination game later this week.

Lady Knights defeat Calvary Chapel 8-3

The Foothill softball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a win over Calvary Chapel in a pool-play game in the Laguna Hills Softball Tournament. The Knights plated five runs in the first inning, taking advantage of Mikayla Prudholme's leadoff single, three walks and two hit batters, and rbi ground outs by Eva Chahbazian and Triniti Adams. Foothill added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning when Shannon Cunningham homered to left field after Sam Polowski singled and Arissa Calvillo walked for the second time. The Eagles got on the board in the fifth inning stringing together four hits. Stella Turner pitched six innings to earn her third win of the season. Foothill is scheduled to play Capistrano Valley High School on Tuesday in their second pool play game.

Huntington Beach Shuts Down Foothill

The Lady Knights lost to the Huntington Beach Oilers 13-0 in a non-league game at Huntington Beach High School. The Oilers, ranked number 1 in Orange County, limited Foothill to one base-runner. The Knights have two weeks off until their next game Friday, March 6, when they host Godinez Fundamental High School at 3:15.

Foothill Opens Season with Dominating Win Over Dana Hills

The Foothill Knights opened the 2020 softball season with a thoroughly dominating win over the visiting Dana Hills High School. Senior Stella Turner needed just 74 pitches to roll through the Dolphin lineup. Turner and junior catcher Delaney O’Donoghue stifled the visitors, limiting Dana Hills to just three hits and one run. After a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Knights offense jumped on the Dolphins’ starting pitcher with junior Mikayla Prudholme leading off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Freshman Alex Storey dropped a sacrifice bunt, advancing Prudholme to second base. Junior Arissa Calvillo ground out a walk, bringing up junior Alyson Crawford fouled off four two-strike pitches before ripping a single into center field, scoring Prudholme. Turner again retired the side in the second inning, bringing the Knights offense back to the plate. Sophomore Eva Chahbazian led of the inning by reaching base on an infield error. Sophomore Nicole Zerkel then beat out a bunt, placing runners on first and second. Prudholme wasted little time, blasting a single to left field, loading the bases. Two pitches later, Storey send a line drive into left-center, plating two Knights. Another quiet inning for Turner was followed by a 1-2-3 inning for the Knights. The fourth inning saw Foothill score two more as Prudholme singled in Chahbazian from second base and advanced Zerkel to third. Zerkel then stole home on the front half of a double steal. Another Foothill score followed in the fifth inning. The Dolphins managed to push one run across in the sixth inning, but the Knights answered with two of their own. After a Prudholme walk and a bunt base hit by Storey, Crawford reached base on another Dana Hills error that allowed Prudholme to score and Storey to advance to third, where she scored on a wild pitch. For the game Dana Hills scored one run on three hits and committed six errors. The Knights tallied eight runs on nine hits while committing no errors.
