Three Medals and Lots of Great Runs at the Caledonia Invitational

Three Medals and Lots of Great Runs at the Caledonia Invitational

" Our girls team really skied well today, even though we placed fifth there was a lot to be happy about. Our skiers came out today and skied confidently under some fairly tough conditions. Earlier in the season we raced on Buck and it intimidated some of our skiers but today they all were ready for what ever the hill threw at them." Coach Petrosky "Mya and Kyleigh both really skied well today and really all season. The two of them have really pushed themselves this season and today we got to see them at their finest--we also got to see improved skiing from all of our team."

"At the beginning of the season, our goal was to see improvement in each of our skiers and we did! I know 10th place is not something we have seen in a while but we haven't had a team this young either. My Juniors led the way all season and at regionals their leadership came through. Mya Baldwin and Kyleigh Thompson have proven themselves on the slopes and off the slopes. Even when they have a tough run, they are there cheering on their team mates and are ready for their next event. Mya had a great first slalom run and then on her second run clipped a gate with her ski causing it to come off. Even though this was not the result she had hoped for, Mya cleared her head and finished the race leading our team in GS. Both Baldwin and Thompson have been the foundation of our rebuild and I could not be prouder of these two outstanding young ladies!"

The girls ski team had an early start to their Saturday, competing in the Wooden Shoe Slalom Invitational at Cannonsburg on Saturday. Even though everyone had to be to the race before 8:00 am there were a lot of smiles because the team was racing despite some terrible weather last week that canceled the team's conference race.

"Sometimes improvement doesn't show up in the final score and today was one of those days. My girls confidence went up and their skiing showed signs of growth---all of girls finished all of their runs on one of the steepest slopes in Michigan which is a feat that doesn't always happen at this race." Coach Petrosky "The first step in improving as a team is believing in yourself and these girls are doing just that. I heard them all say that they were ready for the 550 feet of vertical on the FACE and after their runs they said that it was fun, which is going to help when we head back to the 250 ft vertical of Timber Ridge on Monday for our next conference race. When I took over the program 8 years ago, the first thing that we did was add as much big hill up north racing to our schedule as possible, so our skiers would gain skiing experiences that can only be had on steep complicated slopes."
