Brea, CA — The 2020 Sunny Hills Track & Field season got off to a bright start yesterday at the Brea Rotary Relays. Overall, there were 8 PR's set on the day and several athletes earned medals in their respective events. The trio of Austin Martino, David Enriquez, and Cham Hallawaarachchi won 4th place in Boys Varsity Discus. Freshman Brian Singleton placed 4th in the Boys Frosh/Soph 100m dash and Mason Yeo placed 5th in the Boys Varsity Long Jump. Austin Martino also set a PR of 40'5" in the Shot Put taking 4th place in Boys Varsity. On the Girls side, Gloria Lee (Varsity) and Carolyn Tran (Frosh/Soph) each placed in the top 10 of the Girls 100m dash while Abby Haan finished 7th overall in the Girls Varsity 400m dash. Carolyn Tran also finished 6th in the Frosh/Soph division of that event. In the 1600m run Sophomore Julissa Herrera started strong and finished 6 seconds away from her personal PR. while Junior Samantha Mejia smashed her PR by 22 seconds posting a time of 6:32.04. A special acknowledgment to Ryan Murray whose act of sportsmanship after the 100m dash (rushing over to help a fallen competitor) was well received by the Brea crowd. Overall, it was a great early season experience for the athletes involved and the confidence gained this weekend will serve as building blocks for the season ahead.
