Goddard, KS — By Clint Harden WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - After taking a 31-24 lead into halftime, Augusta couldn’t hold off Goddard in the second half as the Lions won 49-47. The Orioles erupted for 20 points in the second quarter as Allie Timberlake and Kyra Carrell both drained three pointers. Timberlake led her team with 12 points, but only two came in the second half. After the huge second, Augusta went cold in the third quarter, hitting just two shots for four points. Goddard wasn’t able to gain much ground, as the Lions scored just six points in the quarter. But Goddard came to life in the fourth. Trailing 35-30, Maycee James and Bailey Scoggin both finished the quarter with six points. All six of James’ points came on three consecutive possessions that put her team ahead 40-39. The game was back and forth for the final few minutes but Goddard was able to hit the free throws it needed to pull off the cone-from-behind win. Goddard’s James finished with a game-high 24 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Scoggin finished with 10 points in the win. PLAYER OF THE GAME: Bailey Scoggin Bailey played tough defense and contributed to helping hold Augusta to a 4 point 3rd quarter outing as the Lions clawed back from a halftime deficit.
