Wichita, KS — By Braxton Jones WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) -Goddard junior Maycee James was the bright spot for her team in a game against her old team, willing the Lions to a 54-41 win over Wichita Northwest in the GWAL-AVCTL Challenge. James controlled the Lion offense, finding quality shots from the floor as well as finding an open teammate for an easy bucket. Goddard used its size to create second chance points off misses while crashing the offensive boards. The Lion press created problems for the Grizzlies on the night. Blair Clark came away with an early steal thanks to an errant pass which turned into more Goddard points. The Lions out-rebounded the Grizzlies with a grand total of 34! They created pressure in the full-court coming away with many steals leading to transition baskets. Top Scorers for the Lions were Maycee James-28, Bailey Scoggin, 8, Blair Clark 7, and Lauryn Gordon with 5. Maycee James finished the game with a triple double (28 pts, 11, stls, 10, rebounds) and was MaxPreps Player of the Game! The Lions moved to 2-0 tied for first in the AVTCL Div. II (Andover Central 2-0, Salina Central 3-0). Next up for the Lions is a home match-up with Haysville Campus (2-1). https://www.maxpreps.com/games/12-11-2020/girls-basketball-winter-20-21/goddard-vs-northwest.htm?c=zIlQfkgoNUeADauXH7Bmig#tab=box-score&schoolid=
