Caledonia, MI — Wednesday night the Caledonia ski teams traveled to Timber Ridge Ski Area for the first SWMSC race of the season. The Scots skied well in GS and worked through a tough slalom course to end up in second place, finishing behind a very good Mattawan team. Mattawan 68pts Caledonia 89pts South Haven 105pts Portage 111pts Hudsonville. 143pts Plainwell/TK 184pts K-United. 211pts "Our team has really been skiing well in giant slalom and it carried us tonight when we had to fight through an extremely challenging slalom set. Between the rock solid "hard pack Michigan race surface" also known as ice and some deep ruts our guys had to really work to get their slalom times tonight." "We are extremely proud of these guys, they had been pushing themselves to be faster and that is a risky situation in tough course--it has paid off and also hurt out scores this season." Coach Petrosky. "We feel we made some progress tonight and are moving in the right direction as a team, which will help us next Monday at Crystal Mountain when we race in the Benzie Invitational. Leading the way for the Scots were seniors Zach Roy (8th GS and 13th SL), Reid Goosen (6th GS & 20th SL), Gavin Donnelly (14th GS), junior Ben DeGood (8th SL & 13th GS), and sophomore Tyler Dean (6th SL). Caledonia won the first Varsity B meet of the season by a huge margin and some great skiing. Our conference only scores the top three skiers for our B races and the Scots scored 17 pts in their first race of the season. The Varsity B was led by freshman Brayden Smith (1st SL & 2nd GS), sophomore Sean Rice (2nd SL and 3rd GS) and freshman Mason Peters (4th SL & 5th GS). "We saw a lot of improvement in our varisty B skiers tonight--last week we only had two skiers finish the slalom course and tonight we dominated it. Everyone of our kids finished both courses and also were fast tonight, which is a great sign for our future." Coach Petrosky.
