Ridgewood, NJ — Clifton Mustangs Varsity shutout Ridgewood 8-0 Friday night at Ridgewood's Veterans Field. Vinny Civitella dominated on the mound, threw the whole game, striking out 10 and allowing only four hits in the game. The last batter stepped up to the plate with Civitella at 109 pitches on the day. Mustangs went to work early, scoring 3 runs in the first inning on a Josh Miller sac fly and two steals home on passed balls. Clifton scored four more runs in the fourth inning led by Nick Plaskon, Connor Reed and Jayden Severino all driving in runs. Ridgewood had a glimmer of hope in the bottom of the fourth with bases loaded and one out after a couple walks and one batter hit by a pitch. The "wood" batters could not get any runs across the plate with great blocking by Plaskon and a confident Civitella striking out the next two batters. Dane Mocera had two hits on the day. Josh Miller, Justin Rivera, and Juan Peralta also collected hits in the BIG win of the week. Mustangs improved their record to 10-2 as they look forward to a busy week ahead and the start of the county tournament where they are the #1 seed.
