Fort Pierce, FL — The girls varsity weightlifting team opened their 2021 season Friday, November 12th, against cross town rival John Carroll Catholic High School. The Cobras narrowly missed taking first place with a team score of 34 to John Carroll's 38. Rookie senior Carrie Pittman placed 3rd in the 139 division with a 145 pound total while veteran senior Andrea Lee placed 1st in the 154 division with a 305 pound total and senior Naomi Langel, in her first year on the team, placing 4th with a 170 pound overall total. Additional newcomers to the 2021-2022 team are sophomore Aliana Sterratt placing 1st in the 169 division with a 130 pound total, freshman Angelina Mull placing 1st in the 199 division with a 170 pound total & junior Bri Wilson snagging 2nd with a 155 pound total. Senior Ana Amador placed 2nd in the unlimited class with a 315 pound total while sophomore Nikayia Wilder squeaked out a 1st place finish with a stellar 345 pound total. To round out our rookies, junior Harley Hutchings put up a 215 pound total with senior Maria Duran putting up a 170 pound total in the unlimited class. Overall the Cobra's did well in their opening meet despite losing three players to preseason injuries. All three players are expected to return to the weight room in the coming weeks which will put the Cobra's in a good position to bring home a few team wins this season. The Cobra's are back in action next Wednesday, November 17th at 4:00pm at home versus Westwood Prep and district competition, Sebastian River High School.
