Gobles, MI — The Caledonia girls ski team opened up its season Wednesday, finishing 3rd out of the 8 teams that compete in the South West Michigan Ski Conference. The first meet was held at Timber Ridge Ski Area and was an away meet for the Scots, who took 2nd in slalom and 4th in giant slalom at the race. “I am really happy with how our girls skied at our first race. We knew that Portage and Mattawan were going to be tough and we kept it very close with some great skiing in slalom. Barbie DeGood and Evie Schlett did an awesome job leading the way tonight and they had a lot of support from Leona Herdin, an exchange student from Austria” Coach Petrosky. “The girls did not make any mistakes and we are only 4 points from being in 2nd place after the first race, which we are excited about.” Barbie DeGood led the way for Caledonia placing 7th in slalom and 11th in GS, Evie Schlett placed 11th in slalom and 12th in GS, Leona Herdin placed 17th in both events and Mya Baldwin rounded out the scoring with a 13th in slalom and 18th in GS. In the Varisty B team Caledonia took 2nd place. Scoring our the Scots’ B team were exchange student Elena Luraschi (3rd SL & 5th GS), Erin Peckham (3rd GS & 6th SL), Liz Hilton (7th Sl & 9th GS), Lydia Sowerby (11th GS) and Dianna Bisono-Balaguer (11th SL). The Scots next meet is the Cadillac Invitational at Caberfae Peaks on Jan 18th.
