La Verne, CA — This past weekend a partial varsity squad traveled to La Verne, Ca and competed the 2 day Damien Classic. We had 6 wrestlers compete and all 6 qualified for the 2nd day of the tournament. All 6 won a minimum of 3 matches in the weekend. 122lb - Sophomore Liam Baker in only his 2nd tournament ever continues to improve and demonstrate is athletic ability along side his toughness. Liam finished the tournament with a 3-2 record. 134lb - Anthony Solis in his junior season has really turned a corner and become one of our early season standouts on the team. Solis just missed the podium and finished with a 5-2 record. 140lb - Ruben Rivera continues to battle and win matches based off instinct and grit. Ruben missed his sophomore season due to Covid and part of his freshman year due to an injury and he using the maturity of his junior season to his advantage. As Ruben continues to hone his wrestling skills he will be very dangerous when those skills are combined with his aggressiveness and willingness to battle. Ruben’s record this past weekend was 3-2. 147lb - Our line Senior and a captain Daniel Felix continues to be the model of consistency as he turned in another great weekend of wrestling. Daniel was seeded 2nd to start the tournament and finished the tournament with a record of 6-1 which gave him a 3rd place medal. 172lb - Junior Jesse Eads was the biggest surprise of our group this past weekend. Jesse is a true competitor that uses his competitiveness and athletic ability to his advantages. As an unseeded wrestler Jesse made it to the semi finals. He suffered a sprained ankle that contributed to his first loss of the tournament. Jesse finished with a 5-2 record earning him a 4th place medal. 184lb - Isaac Zavala has started his junior with his second tournament placing. Isaac is a big strong athletic wrestler that stays in great position and just battles for 6 minutes. Isaac finished in 4th place with a record of 5-2 on the weekend.
