McPherson, KS — The McPherson High Boys Tennis team brought home the Regional Championship on Friday, as every division was able to reach the semifinals, qualifying for the state tournament. Jayden Fox would enter the No. 2 singles seed overall, and Ayden Johnson would enter the No. 3 seed. Both would win their opening matches and would face one another in the semifinals, where Fox would win 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the championship, where he would fall to the likely No. 1 singles player in the state tournament. Johnson would fall in the third place game to take fourth, but Coach Tyler Brown would say, “Ayden Johnson kept his composure and showed that he can play with the best of 4A.” Brown would later talk about the depth of the singles regional, and he’s excited to see what Fox and Johnson can do at state. The Bullpup doubles teams would go head-to-head in the championship, where Wesley Wurm and Tyler Bontrager would defeat Ty Kraemer and Kayden McVicker, even though Coach Tyler Brown mentioned that Kraemer and McVicker are playing their best tennis of the year. He later added, “If both doubles teams can play relaxed and confident, they’ll be able to make some noise.” With everyone reaching the regional semifinals, the Pups will travel to Winfield on Friday and Saturday for the State Tournament, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Below are the team, and the Bullpup individual regional records: McPherson 23 Buhler 15 El Dorado 9 Abilene 8 Clay Center 2 Chapman 1 Jaden Fox 2-1 2nd Ayden Johnson 1-2 4th Wesley Wurm / Tyler Bontrager 3-0 1st Ty Kraemer / Kayden McVicker 2-1 2nd
