Put on hold due to a conflict with our travel meet up north, we have been able to return in recent years to a course that as a runner, you have to love, and one that we have success on. It was a beautiful morning for racing and no one took better advantage of it than Noah Chairez. The top 10 Grizzlies on this course, with only one exception, came after a significant course change in 2013, which made it faster. The standard for fastest was set on Saturday as Noah covered the challenging 5K course in 16:18, besting the previous best by former Baseline League champion, Bradley Ewart. The meet has a different format and with runners spread out in different races, the FS boys raced to a 3rd place finish out of 21 teams, the Varsity Boys finished 9th out of 25, and the overall boys merge placed the boys 8th of 28 teams, all in all a fine showing. Top 10 finishes were earned by Dominic Skiles and Maverick Chamberlin in the FS #1-5 race as they finished 5th and 7th respectively. Brayden Cox had his best showing by far, finishing 7th in the FS 6+ race. Our girls team’s strength has been the pack of five that have had such a small scoring time gap, but if one of them is missing, it will affect the placing. Despite being without one of them, the girls finished a respectable 12th out of 25 teams. Jenna Summers finished 2nd overall in the FS race to shine for the Grizzlies. Next up is the Pacific Grove Invitational in Carmel next Saturday for those qualifiers at Red Hill. I hope everyone is ready for a great trip!
