Belmont, MI — Saturday started out cold but sunny as the Scots headed to Cannonsburg to race in the Norm's GS Invitational, a new format for a race that has been a foundation of the racing community in the Grand Rapids area. This year, the race had a team focus instead of a grade level individual focus which was a welcome change for all of the team that have been struggling to reach the four start threshold for Regional eligibility. "Cannonsburg is a unique place to race for our team since it is so different than where we train. It is a little steeper, has much more terrain variation and tons of fall away to its slopes versus the steady pitch and consistent slopes of Bittersweet. We really appreciate the invitational to race in this event, since it gives our kids one more slope to gain experience on. Today we skied pretty well but learned a few things that we have to do differently on February 14th at Regionals, if we want to have a chance to move on to the State Finals." Coach Petrosky " My top for skiers all had solid runs today and we ended up 6th out of 10 teams, which really points to the quality of racers that were at the race. This race is always a nice point of self reflection for our team, since many of the teams are in our division at Regionals." Leading the way for the Scots at this GS only race were Sean Rice (9th place), Tyler Dean (13th place), Luke Shuster (26th place) and Brayden Smith (34th place). The Scots took 3rd place in the JV Meet and were led by Cohen Broomfield (9th place), Derick Prichard (18th place), Gavin Dean (19th place), and Peter Calhoun (33rd place). This race also had a middle school division and the Caledonia Middle School Ski Team was lead by Junior Harper (10th place ), Cohen Bloem (13th place), Trey Langeland (18th place) and Jackson Pugh (24th place). The Middle School team took 3rd.
