McLouth, KS — We had a great start to the 2023 powerlifting season with multiple students earning Top 3 finishes in individual lifts and 3 Lift Total. This meet was BIG, with over 500 competitors in all. I was very pleased with the way our students presented themselves and represented our program, our school, and our families. Not everything went smoothly but we were very respectful and understanding in all areas. I am very proud of how we handled ourselves when we were met with adversity-- some was self-inflicted, some things were out of our control, but we handled ourselves with maturity throughout. Our Men's team finished in 2nd place behind Mill Valley which edged us by 2 points. Our team was led by 1st place finishes from Seniors Cole Bunck and Devan Jones and Junior Jamond Lane. All three of these young men rose to the occasion to secure 1st place victories with solid performances in Clean. Devan Jones had a stellar performance once again-- breaking the Meet Record for Overall Total in the 220 pound weight class and earning the top Clean at the meet as well. We had many other students place in the top 6 of their weight class to earn team points. Newcomers Fernando Armendariz, Kaleb Barbe, Andrew Holman, and Jonathan Bodner took 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th respectively. It is a great start to their first season! Veterans Ethan Ledbetter (2nd), Holden Vickery (4th), Connor Wells (6th), and Carter Jones (5th) placed in the top of their weight class as well. These guys have set a high standard for our program and our young guys have been learning from them throughout training. Overall, I am thrilled to see what these kids can do going forward! We appreciate all of your support and plan to keep you informed of our accomplishments and news throughout the season.
