Irvine, CA — RECAP: Dual Scores: F/S: Irvine beats Beckman 28 - 3!!!! Girls: Irvine beats Beckman 24 - 12!!!! Varsity: Irvine beats Beckman 34 - 33!!!! Good day to be a Vaquero as all teams get a victory. Some key moments from each dual: F/S: Freshman Mekan Geldiyev started the day with a dominating 11 - 0 major decision as Sage Valk and James York followed with pins. Alex Kong fought hard to grab a nail-biting 5 - 4 decision. Cevin Blanco gets a pin as usual whilst Lucas Hernandez seals the dual with a 5 - 3 decision. Girls: Sophomores Malak and Janan wrestled tough against some experienced wrestlers and were unfortunately not victorious tonight, but returning cif placer Charlie Petersen changed the tides with a nice pin victory. Sophomore Lily Mendez and Freshman Milla Kulish both won their matches afterwards. The last match of the Girls Duals occurred under the spotlight as Hassina Mohammad rematched an earlier loss from this season. Hassina got her revenge with a third-round takedown winning 3 - 1. Varsity: We started this dual down 12 points due to forfeiting HWT and the 106 weight classes. Freshman Chad Russom started the dual against an experienced Junior and he stuck his opponent in 48 seconds! After a big win, Kris Olzod stepped up from his usual JV spot to fill in for a sick teammate. Kris dropped his match, but only by 1 point!! After, Brandon Chiang got his revenge against a loss from earlier this year as he dominates his match. Shaan Patel takes his match to overtime where he unfortunately lost today but will seek to get it back at league finals. Sophomores Armaan Nikoo and Alek Culciar pull a one two as each get back-to-back pins. Chase Russom goes 4 - 0 up in a tough matchup where he made a slight mistake which cost him his match. Despite being his first year, Chase still takes the fight to each one of his opponents. At 160s, Ali Ghulamali takes a loss, but was able to keep the opposition from getting 4 team points. Hadi Hammoudeh steps up and dominates a senior from the other side and gets a decision win. Beni Magyar does what he does best and pins his opponent before a minute even passes. Tierney faced Beckman's toughest wrestler at 195s and majors him easily, recording 4 takedowns in the 3rd period. Jacob Saucedo wrestled a hard 2 periods to keep the score tight but was caught in the final period. Everyone wrestled amazingly today, win or lose, and now the Varsity go 2 weeks without any competition and will reflect on mistakes they made today or perfect the moves that have been working for them this season. We aim to make a big impact at League finals and of course get as many names as possible on the CIF wall.
