Plainfield, IL — Plainfield South Invitational Plainfield South H.S. February 18, 2023 Varsity Places 7th, Fresh/Soph 8th in a Tough 12 Team Field of 3A Schools Headlines Kody Danko Wins the 800, 2nd in 1600 Kody has started the season with back to back tremendous performances. After setting lifetime bests in the 800 (2:00.18, 2A #2) and 1600 two weeks ago in Rockford, Kody runs 2:02.08 in the 800 Run on a tight 180m track to win the event. Then, in the 1600 Run, Kody sets a lifetime best of 4:38.75 (2A #5) to place 2nd. Kody is training hard and putting in the work and it is paying off for him early in the season. We look forward to what Kody can do in two weeks in a very tough field at ISU. Freshmen are Impressive in 1st High School Meet for Many of Them Sam Seaton had never attempted a triple jump in his life before Saturday. Earlier in the week, Sam set the school record in our Standing Triple Jump testing. He’s a natural. So we put him in the triple jump on Saturday and he ended up placing 4th in the F/S division with a 36’ 5.5” effort! He was the top freshman. If you know anything about track and field, his mark on Saturday is very impressive. As we get outside more and are able to practice field events, it will be fun to watch how far he can go this year. He also placed 3rd in the F/S high jump with a 5’ 5 effort! Freshman Jon Davis had a great first full high school meet. Two weeks ago at Rockford he got his first taste of how tough the 400 Dash can be and gained a bunch of experience. Yesterday, he put together solid efforts in four different events. His most impressive efforts came in the 800 Relay and 200 Dash. He ran a solid 27.2 leg, fastest of the four, and then topped it off with a 26.48 200 which is a great time considering the tight turns. Jon finished 9th in the 200 Dash but was the second fastest freshman. I’m loving his attitude and work ethic. Excited to watch his improvement this year! We have a great trio of freshmen throwers. Luke Gebhardt has been doing a great job since practice began back in January. He’s very coachable and a pleasure to be around. Yesterday, Luke finished 12th in the F/S division but was the second best freshman. Jake Isermann just finished up basketball this past Thursday and threw the shot with not much practice on Saturday. Jake finished 16th in the F/S division and was the 5th best freshman. Looking forward to seeing what he can do with some practice! Cody Taylor is our third freshman, I didn’t get his picture on Saturday, and finished 23rd in the F/S division and the 8th best freshman. He just finished basketball as well and has a bunch of potential. The boys also ran the 55 Dash on Saturday and did a great job! There is always a huge learning curve for freshmen as they experience their first high school meet. Checking in for running events, checking in and out of field events, making sure you warm up properly and listening for event calls are all things freshmen must learn on the fly. Kameron Magana, Garritt Benstine, Andrew Warwick, Cooper Sharisky (not pictured) and LA Moton (not pictured) all did a great job in their first meet. Kameron’s times in practice continue to improve and it showed in his 200 Dash. His form was good and he finished strong and almost won his heat. Garritt ran his first 400 and finished strong. With more work, he’s going to be a good one! Andrew missed his 55 race but gave a great effort in the 400, finishing 8th in the F/S division and was the 2nd fastest freshman. LA just finished basketball and hopped right in and did a great job in the 55 and high jump. Cooper ran his first ever hurdle race and did great. His form is pretty decent for only practicing once this past week. Cooper finished 12th in the 55 Hurdles but was the second fastest freshman. The F/S Distance Crew are doing a great job. They are putting in the work and gaining experience. Thyberius Hallam ran a lifetime best in the 800. Gabe Gutierrez gave two great efforts in the 1600 and 3200. Chase Lane ran a great 1600 and wanted to do better in the 3200 but I love his attitude and his work ethic. First year track guy, sophomore Cian Reed ran two good races and continues to improve. Coach Brittin is doing a great job with the group and I’m looking forward to what they will do this season! Goforth Places in Two Events Sophomore Quentin Goforth placed 2nd in the F/S 200 Dash and 4th in the F/S 55 Dash. McDonald PR’s in Two Events Sophomore Hunter McDonald had a great meet! He had lifetime best performances in the Shot Put and 55 Dash. F/S 800 Relay Gets After It! The team of Chance Robart, Jon Davis, Cooper Sharisky and Miguel Lopez finished 7th. All four athletes were running their first sprint relays of their careers. The indoor 800 Relay can be crazy. But these four did a great job of competing and navigating what can be difficult exchanges. They all ran hard and the experience will pay off for them down the road.
