Belmont, MI — The girls ski team had an early start to their Saturday, competing in the Wooden Shoe Slalom Invitational at Cannonsburg on Saturday. Even though everyone had to be to the race before 8:00 am there were a lot of smiles because the team was racing despite some terrible weather last week that canceled the team's conference race. "I am impressed with how dedicated these kids are, they just roll with each weather setback and cancelation and are ready when we can get on snow." Coach Petrosky "We were invited to this race Tuesday and when I talked to the team about whether we should race or rest, they all said race! This is one of the reasons I love coaching these kids---they are dedicated and motivated to do their best and we are seeing a ton of growth even though we have had less time on snow than a normal winter. Our travel schedule has put our varsity kids in 7 races this year (JV in four) which may be the most of any team in the area but we have had much less practice time at our home hill, Bittersweet." In the varsity meet, the girls team took 5th in a very tough field of teams. Scoring for the Scots were Kyleigh Thompson 21st, Erin Peckham 28th, Liz Hilton 31st and Mya Baldwin 33rd. Due to some other conflicts we did not have enough JV girls to score our team. The Wooden Shoe is also scored by grade level and the following skiers placed in the top ten in their respective grades. Sophomore: Erin Peckham 8th, Liz Hilton 10th Junior: Kyleigh Thompson 9th
