Salina, KS — AVCTL Division 2 League Meet Salina, Kansas 10/13/2023 Today the Goddard Lions raced in their 7th race of the season at our League Meet in Salina, Kansas! It was a brisk/windy day for Lions with much anticipation/excitement surrounding post season competition! As the Lions walked the course and got ready at the start line music was playing as the Lions hyped themselves up for race day! The gun went off and the Lions were able to run some exceptional race times today! As a team it was very hard for us to replicate the performances we had at Wichita Trinity, but we had some standout performances today and some amazing race times ran at our League meet! Link to Race times: milesplit.live/meets/565116 Highlights: 1. 14/22 Lions ran their best race of the season with 11/14 of those Lions runnings Personal Records! With much harsher race conditions in comparison to Wichita Trinity this was an outstanding performance by our team today! Everyone ran the absolute best race they could and that is all we can ask as a coaching staff. 2. Luke Griffith earned a medal today with an 8th place finish! He had not run a PR this season and began to trend at Wichita Trinity. Today Luke came out flying with a great sense of confidence and ran his first PR of the season with a very impressive time of 17:03! He beat his previous PR by 15 seconds! With an 8th place finish Luke earned 2nd team All League Honors! Well done Luke! This young man will look to keep trending upward as he is running times worthy of qualifying for the State Cross Country meet in Lawrence, KS! Season Recap for Non-Regional Runners: For some of our runners this was their last race of the season. Goddard Cross Country everyone should be extremely proud of the season we have had. Our program has come such a long ways the last 4 years I have been here and that is all because of YOU. We have the best support and the kids have worked so hard this season while having a lot of fun! Our season was filled with notable achievements and significant milestones. The Lions perseverance and hard work resulted in the team's first-ever meet win at Lake Afton, marking a historic moment in our school's sports history! We have not had a team win a meet in 15+ years! Not only did we triumph at Lake Afton, but we also displayed consistent improvement throughout the season. Runners who ran their last race today Coach Ford along with myself are so proud of each of you! You will not need to report to practice next week if you are not on the regional list below. Regional Runners; your season is not finished! Your dedication and hard work have brought you this far, but there's still plenty to strive for and achieve! Next week at practice we will keep pushing our limits and give it our all at Regionals! Embrace the challenge ahead with enthusiasm, and let your passion drive you towards one more Personal Record to finish the season! I will be sending out a practice schedule for next week soon along with a Regional Race itinerary. After Regionals I will send more end of the season information out. GO LIONS!
