Santa Barbara, CA — San Marcos shuts out Pacifica 33-0 tonight. The first half was very competitive as the Royal's defense forced the Tritons to punt several times while the offense was still finding their rhythm. Sophomore receiver Rio Chesluk opened the scoring late in the first half with a 15 yard pass from sophomore quarterback Mia Sturm. She also added the extra point on a reception and logged an interception in the first half as well. On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, junior receiver Jazmin Ordaz took a pitch from Sturm and went the distance for a 60 yard touchdown run. The Royals did not convert the extra point and stretched the lead to 13-0. San Marcos converted three of five extra point attempts on the night. The Royals continued to play stifling defense and added 3 more interceptions in the second half. Two by sophomore defensive back Peyton Sperling and another by freshman linebacker Marilyn Monroy. Monroy took her interception 55 yards for the touchdown, and with the extra point, extended the Royal's lead to 27-0. Chesluk added another touchdown reception of 57 yards on a pass from sophomore quarterback Jazmyn Amezcua. Sophomore receiver Riley Cook hauled in the final offensive touchdown on a 29 yard pass from Amezcua. Coach Fowle: "I'm very proud of the way our team played tonight. We knew Pacifica was going to be very competitive and have lots of speed. Our defense responded to the challenge and really took their game to the next level. It was nice to get some things clicking offensively in the second half as well. We have a good mindset going and are eager to get back to work and continue to improve." The Royals are 4-2 overall (2-1 Channel League) and will travel to play Lompoc next Tuesday, September 19th for a 4pm contest. Their next home game is against Buena on Thursday, September 21st at 6:30pm.
