Ridgefield, CT — Ridgefield hosted the 22nd Annual Gary Tiger Ridgefield Challenge this past weekend. The event followed an Alumni Event on Thursday January 25th celebrating 30 years of youth wrestling in Ridgefield. Many of the alumni stayed in town for the challenge and were treated to a record setting performance by the home team. The Challenge prides itself on bringing together some of the top teams from New York and New England. Ridgefield took second place behind current CT powerhouse, Newtown, and edged out a tough New Milford team. The Alumni showed up in droves and were given VIP seating for what turned out to be a very exciting and entertaining finals round. Ridgefield placed five wrestlers in the finals, winning four of the five and taking home both both individual awards for the Most Outstanding Wrestler, Victor Petkov and Most Outstanding Finals Match, Lorenzo Lanzilli. This was truly a team effort with Ridgefield picking up points across its entire line-up. Taking first were Dylan Meyers (113), Dom Barrella (120), Lorenzo Lanzilli (138), Victor Petkov (144). Taking second was Johnny Carrozza (126) and taking third were Finn Van Alstyne (99), Carter Lanzilli (106), Leo Moore (132) and Luciano Tuminello (152). Taking fourth place were Brody Block (106) and James Westrick (113). Assistant Varsity Coach Jim Murphy, the founder of the youth program, commented, “We couldn’t have scripted a better weekend.
