Torrance, CA — El Camino College got its 2024 season underway at the South Coast Conference Opener on Saturday at Murdock Stadium and the ECC Throws Field. Sophomore Anthony Taylor and Sequioa Gonzales highlighted the day's proceedings for the Warriors as both secured victories on Saturday while others had solid showings in the first event of the season. Taylor began his day by winning the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34 and then locked down a victory in the 300m hurdles later in the day with a time of 39.49, the only runner to break 40 seconds in the event. In addition to his victories, Taylor also finished third in the 60m dash. On the women's side, Gonzales picked up the victory in the 3,000m with a time of 10:55.35, the only runner to finish under 11 minutes in the event. She bested a field of 20 runners to take her first win of the season. Along with the individual wins, the women's 4000m distance medley relay team scored a win with a time of 13:19.71, besting the teams from Mt. SAC (13:23.91) and Cerritos (14:49.26). Ami Jacobson opened the race with Jasmin Williams and Elaine Dugmore putting in the work in the middle while Gonzales secured the victory as the anchor leg. Other highlights from Saturday include: Matthew Irvine, 2nd place in 200m (22.82) Naomi Walker, 2nd place in women's hammer throw (42.12m – 138 feet, 2 inches).
