Carterville girls on the course the day prior to the State meet
Peoria, IL — The Carterville girls cross country team headed to Detweiller Park in Peoria to compete in the IHSA 2A State XC meet this past Saturday. They finished with a top 15 finish, out of 29 teams from across the state. They were just 6 points away from finishing 12th, and would have knocked off 3 big schools from Crystal Lake Central, Waterloo, and Grayslake Central.
To lead the Lions, Molly Robertson was 24th with a time of 17:47 and earned All-State Honors. This is the first time a girl from Carterville has been named to the All-State team. Next for Carterville was Lyla Seaman who ran a solid race finishing 73rd (18:46). Laney Sambursky crossed the finish line in 107th place (19:11), followed closely by Dani Williamson who finished in 124th place (19:23), and Marcela Wood who finished in 163rd place (19:54). All three girls earned PR’s with those times. Carterville’s final 2 runners, Lillian Carsrud and Liesel Balmforth also finished with PR’s for the year as well in 20:51 and 21:54 respectively.
Coach Adams praised the senior girls, saying, “The three seniors that ran today, Molly, Marcela, and Lillian, along with the other two senior girls on the team, Lexie and Leina, have been monumental in encouraging and leading this girls team. They were a big reason why the girls did so well this year. Those five girls will be a tough group to replace.”
Overall St. Ignatious College Prep won the 2A girls race, Chicago DePaul College Prep was 2nd and Chatham Glenwood was 3rd.
