Recap
Mitchell, SD — -Worthington, MN-
11/09/2024
This years DWU Open held by Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD was once again a very tough tournament full of some of the nations best wrestlers at the NCAA D1, D2, NAIA, and NJCAA level!
This year specifically, the NCAA Div. 2 teams ruled the roost, as the tournament hosted numerous NSIC Conference schools, a conference that last year had the most All Americans of any other conference in the nation at the NCAA D2 level!
The Bluejays were able to see a couple of inter-conference opponents of their own, as Bismarck State College and Ridgewater College made the trip to Mitchell. Also in attendance was Iowa Western, a school the Bluejays will see at the national tournament.
Fans at the DWU Open were treated to some outstanding wrestling, and that includes the Bluejays! Highlighting the day was Sam Rock at 174lb. Sam went 2-2 on the day, starting things off with a Technical Fall over M. Nikolov of Iowa Western shortly into the second period! Sam kept the momentum earning a Major Decision against N. Jensen of SMSU. Sam fell just shy of placement, but showed a tremendous effort while battling the veterans of college wrestling!
Also earning a win on the day was Aidyn Wolfe at 184lb! Aidyn earned a regular decision in his first match of the day over D. Howlett of Minot State!
Earning their first victories at the collegiate level, both by FALL, was Treveon Owens at 165 and Powis “Billey” Mensah at 285!
“The energy was electric today. This tournament was easily tougher than last week, especially with all ages and divisions wrestling together. We challenged the boys to attack, and they did just that. We’re all leaving here with a smile on our face today! Happy, but never satisfied!” -Coach Curry
You can catch the Bluejays in action again next Friday (11/15/2024) in Storm Lake, IA taking on the Beavers of Buena Vista University at 7:30pm!
