Thompsonville, MI — The Caledonia boys ski team got off to a great start at the Invitational that was against Mt Pleasant, Clare, Harrison, Grand Rapids Christian, Onekama, Glenn Lake and Grayling by placing second in giant slalom and ended up 3rd in the final standings for the meet. The Potgeter brothers led the way in giant slalom with David Potgeter setting the pace for Caledonia by taking the 2nd place medal and, freshman, Jake Potgeter placing just out of the medals with a 16th place finish.
The Caledonia clump pushed back the other teams with Peter Calhoun scoring a 17th place finish while freshman Justin Harper scored in his first varsity race with a 21st place finish.
Caledonia placed fourth in slalom. David Potgeter led the Scots by medaling with an 8th place finish, Aidan Brown medaled with a 13th place finish, Jake Potgeter scored with a 20th place finish and rounding out the scorers was James Pritchard, who finished 24th.
“We are very happy with how our guys skied today. We were missing one of our top skiers, who was at the state choir festival, and everyone else stepped up to put down great runs for the team. It is always nice when we get to race against some different teams to see how we stack up against some of the competition we will see at Regionals on Feb 10th.” Coach Petrosky, “At the beginning of the season, we knew we had some younger skiers that would help us in the future and they really seem to be making huge contributions earlier than we thought. Jake, James and Justin are really stepping up for our team.”
The Scots have a busy week next week with a conference race on Wednesday at Crystal Mountain and the Grayling Slalom Hootenanny Race at the Otsego Ski Club, near Gaylord.
