Thompsonville, MI — Wednesday the Scots tied Onekama for second at the fourth Lake Michigan Ski Conference Meet of the season. Caledonia took second in giant slalom and third in slalom at the meet but the final total of points locked the teams in a tie.
In slalom, Chiara Marta took first place, to earn her fourth conference slalom victory this season. Also scoring in slalom for Caledonia were sophomore Ada Decker (11th), and seniors Liz Hilton (12th) and Erin Peckham (15th).
Scoring in giant slalom were Chiara Marta (2nd ), Liz Hilton (7th), Zuzanna Poradzka (8th) and Madison Reynolds (12th).
“We are starting to see some very balanced scoring from the team. Our sophomores are really starting to ski well. Madison and Ada are really making progress on the varsity and our sophomores on our JV team are making huge strides towards breaking into the starting lineup. Kylee Zimmerer and Olivia Van Laan had a great race placing well in the overall. The improvement of the group is a great sign for the future of our team and we are excited about the improvement in everyone’s skiing.” Coach Petrosky. “It is easy to focus on the exceptional season that Chiara is having and what is sometime missed is how everyone around her is improving, especially our younger and new skiers. This is the time of the season where all of the girls’ hard work really starts to show and the team is moving in the right direction as we close in on regionals.”
Caledonia’s next race is regionals at Cannonsburg on Monday Feb 10th. The top three teams and top ten individuals move on to the MHSAA State Finals at Boyne Highlands on Feb 24th.
