Belmont, MI — Ironically, Caledonia’s biggest race of the season was at the smallest hill that we have raced at all season and the closest to home. The race at Cannonsburg was the only race the Scots have been in this winter that has been south of Cadillac. “Cannonsburg is a completely different type of hill than we have been racing this winter. Most of the slopes we have been on are steep and long with fairly consistent pitches but Cannonsburg has a unique combination of flat to steep to flat slopes that have been a challenge to our skiers over the years. We are proud of our girls and their effort at Regionals this year, they really focused on putting together some great runs.” Coach Petrosky “The race is a qualifier for the State Finals and we knew that Chiara had a chance to qualify with solid runs in both disciplines. We are extremely happy with how she skied today on a type of slope that she has not seen this year. We are even more excited to see how she does at the state finals at the Highlands. We are also really happy with the runs the rest of the team put down, we saw some great improvement and things that we can build on moving to the future. This is an outstanding group of young ladies, they are all great skiers, great students and great people!" Chiara Marta led Caledonia taking the 5th place medal in slalom in the morning; her finish qualified her for the state finals. Also scoring in slalom were: Liz Hilton (36th), Ada Decker (40th) and Madison Reynolds (41st). In a very close giant slalom, Chiara Marta took 2nd place earning a trip to compete in the state finals on Feb 24th. Polish exchange student, Zuzanna Poradzka finished 42nd in GS and rounding our the scorers were Ada Decker 43rd and Liz Hilton 45th. Caledonia's final races of the regular season are the LMSC Championship Race on Wednesday Feb 19th and the Caledonia Invitational on Friday Feb 21st, both races are at the home of the Scots----Crystal Mountain!
