Sparks, NV — The Douglas High School girls' wrestling team traveled to Reed High School for the annual Nevada Queens Tournament, eager to compete against some of the best athletes in the state. Representing Douglas, the team stepped onto the mat with five wrestlers, each determined to make an impact in what would prove to be a challenging and competitive event. After a day of tough competition, the Douglas squad left with a total of three medals, marking a strong performance at the tournament. Micah Klein led the charge, finishing as the tournament champion and earning the title of Most Outstanding Wrestler. Klein dominated her bracket with an impressive 3-0 record, securing victories in each match by pin. Her aggressive and technical style was on full display, and her flawless performance earned her well-deserved recognition. River Klein also had a strong showing, battling through a highly competitive field to secure a hard-earned 2nd place finish. Despite facing tough opponents, Klein's resilience and determination paid off, showcasing her skills and earning a spot on the podium. In the same bracket, Jasmine Tamondong proved her mettle, finishing 3rd in a tough weight class. Tamondong's ability to persevere through close matches and her dedication throughout the day demonstrated her growth as a wrestler, earning her a well-deserved place among the top competitors. While Izzy Tamondong and Kalia Blumenthal did not make the podium, both wrestlers showcased strong performances throughout the day. Although they fell short of earning placement medals, their efforts were commendable, and they gained valuable experience to build upon for future competitions. As a team, Douglas High School's girls' wrestling squad placed 6th out of 16 teams, a remarkable achievement considering the high level of competition. Their strong performances at the Nevada Queens Tournament are a testament to the hard work and dedication of both the athletes and their coaching staff.
