Minden, NV — This past weekend, the Douglas Tigers hosted the 2nd Annual Steve Deaton Memorial Tournament, which brought together 24 competitive teams from across the region. It was a thrilling showcase of talent, grit, and determination as both the boys' and girls' wrestling teams from Douglas High delivered standout performances to secure third-place finishes in their respective divisions.
Three Tigers stood atop the podium as champions in their weight classes: Ella Kavanagh, Jasmine Tamondong, and Cody Highfill. Their victories were hard-fought and well-deserved, highlighting their exceptional skill and preparation for the season.
Adding to their accolades, Ella Kavanagh and Cody Highfill were honored with the prestigious Hammer Award, given to the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestlers. This recognition underscores their dominance on the mat and their ability to rise above a highly talented field of competitors.
Wrestler of the Week: Jasmine Tamondong
This week’s Wrestler of the Week is none other than Jasmine Tamondong, who earned her first-ever championship medal.
