Winnemucca, NV — This past weekend, the Douglas Varsity Boys' wrestling team took the road trip to Winnemucca, Nevada, for the highly competitive Cody Louk Invitational Tournament. The event stretched over two action-packed days, bringing together some of the best high school wrestling teams from the region. And while the competition was fierce, the Douglas squad stood tall, finishing 6th out of 28 teams—a fantastic accomplishment for the team! A Strong Start to the Season The team showed up ready to battle, and their hard work paid off. Several wrestlers made an impact, with standout performances that earned them spots on the podium. Leading the charge was Cody Highfill, who dominated the 120lb weight class and claimed 1st place. Cody’s performance was nothing short of impressive, showing that he's ready to take the season by storm. Right behind him, Kolton Zinn wrestled his way to 1st place in the 150lb bracket, proving his skill and determination. These two victories were key to the team's overall success, helping propel Douglas to the top ranks in the tournament. Other Standout Performances While Cody and Kolton captured gold, a few other wrestlers made their mark, too. Isaac Bedrosian showed great technique and heart, earning 4th place in the 126lb division. Not far behind, Kai Blumenthal fought through tough competition to secure 5th place at 138lbs. And Raiden Barnes put on an impressive display of power and skill, finishing in 2nd place at 215lbs. These individual performances were key to Douglas’ strong showing, but the entire team should be proud of how they competed in this tough tournament. Many of the athletes were gaining valuable experience at their first Varsity event, learning how to handle the intensity and pressure that comes with high-level competition. A Bright Future Ahead While the team finished 6th overall, their effort speaks volumes about their potential this season. With several wrestlers gaining crucial experience, it's clear that Douglas is building a team that can go the distance.
