Gaylord, MI — The Otsego Club in Gaylord Michigan was an incredible venue for Grayling High School’s slalom race on Friday. The resort’s historic lodge and iconic views added to the enjoyment of a beautiful day on the slopes for the Caledonia Girls Ski Team. “Our team has never raced here and we did not know what to expect for a race slope and it did not disappoint. The set of the slope had many characteristics of Cannonsburg, where we will race Regionals on Feb 10th. We feel that our experience in this race will help us a ton and we saw a lot of growth in skiers today.” Coach Petrosky “Several of our skiers have not raced on slopes like what we were on today and we saw them make some adjustments to put down some great runs.” The Scots ended up 3rd at the meet, which had a morning slalom session and an afternoon slalom session. Both sessions gave medals to the top ten places. In the morning, Chiara Marta earned a 2nd place medal and Zuzanna Poradzka took home the 10th place medal. Also scoring in the morning were: Liz Hilton (12th) and Madison Reynolds (13th). In the afternoon session, Chiara Marta took home the 1st place medal, winning a very close race by .02 seconds. Also scoring for the Scots were: Zuzanna Poradzka (13th), Madison Reynolds (15th) and Kayli Price (19th). Caledonia’s next varsity race is Monday at Schuss Mountain in the Clare Invitational, followed by a full team conference race at Crystal Mountain on Wednesday.
