Aidan Brown and David Potgeter with their Grayling Slalom Hootenanny Medals
Gaylord, MI — The Scots traveled to the Otsego Club Friday for the Grayling Slalom Hootenanny, which was held in Gaylord at the iconic resort. The Otsego Club was a private, members only golf and ski club until 4 years ago so very few people have ever skied or raced there.
“It was an incredible place for a race! The view of the Black River Valley was more like something that you would see in Colorado than what you would expect in Michigan and it was a great place to hold a race. The race venue had a lot of similarities to the courses we will see at Regionals and it will help us prepare for our Feb 10th race at Cannonsburg.” Coach Petrosky “We learned a lot at this race and everything will help us be ready for our upcoming races. The guys had a lot of ups and downs at this race but we always had someone there to pick up who ever had a tough run and I am proud of the way the guys handled some adversity on the slopes today.”
The race featured a morning slalom session and an afternoon slalom session, both awarded medals to the top ten skiers in each, along with an overall Cowbell Trophy. In the morning session David Potgeter took home a 4th place medal to lead Caledonia. Also scoring in the morning were: Aidan Brown (12th), James Pritchard (18th) and Derick Pritchard (19th).
At the afternoon session, Aidan Brown led the team with a 6th place medal and also scoring was: Derick Pritchard (15th), Jake Potgeter (17th) and David Potgeter (19th).
The Scots ended up in third place being bested by Glen Lake and Mt. Pleasant.
The varsity team heads to Schuss Mountain on Monday for the Clare Invitational and the entire team races in a LMSC race on Wednesday at Crystal Mountain.
