Holden, MA — The Mountaineers fell 1 point short in their Saturday afternoon contest against the South High Colonels. Wachusett jumped out to an early lead, as a result of multiple steals and fast breaks layups. South battled back extended a lead of their own to an 11 point margin late in the second half. Seann Katubi (27 points) and Hunter Berry (14 points) led the charge for the Mountaineers as the Green and White had a last possession to overtake the lead in the final seconds. Sophomore guard Will Njoroge's runner rimmed out on the final possession as the comeback was put to an end. Wachusett will now take on Doherty Memorial on Friday in the semifinals of the Laska Yuletide Invitational at Assumption College at 7:30 PM. On Sunday they will either face St. John's or Shrewsbury.
