San Diego, CA — The Valhalla Norsemen turned in another impressive showing at the CIF Divisional Tournament, finishing 2nd out of 18 teams and securing their third consecutive runner-up finish at the divisional level. With strong performances across the lineup, the Norsemen once again demonstrated their depth and championship mentality.
Three wrestlers claimed individual titles to lead the way. Noor Al Saedi (132 lbs) and Ivan Rivers (126 lbs) battled through competitive brackets to earn first-place finishes. At 175 pounds, Marcelino Nona captured the championship as well, marking his third individual divisional title — a remarkable accomplishment that highlights his consistency and dominance over the years.
The Norsemen also had several other standout performances. Sophomore Michael Huerta placed 2nd at 165 pounds with a strong tournament run. Liam Hypes (150 lbs) and Zach Haggar (215 lbs) each earned 3rd-place finishes. Abdul Amiri (144 lbs), freshman Vincent Gosswiller, and Ethan Perry (120 lbs) all finished 4th in their respective weight classes. Tomas Toshee (106 lbs) battled to a 5th-place finish, Nicholas Haggar (138 lbs) placed 7th, and Ahmed Hussaini (190 lbs) finished 8th.
In total, Valhalla advanced 10 of their 14 wrestlers to the Masters Tournament, where they will compete for qualification to the state tournament. With momentum on their side, the Norsemen continue to build on their tradition of excellence as they move forward in the postseason.
