Cleveland High School — Away Meet Athlete Expectations These expectations apply to ALL CHS Girls Track & Field athletes when traveling to away meets. We represent our school, our program, and our community everywhere we go — behavior, effort, and professionalism matter. 1. Travel & Bus Expectations All athletes must: Ride the bus to and from the meet unless approved by the head coach in advance Arrive on time and check in with coaches before loading Wear CHS gear, team issued apparel, or spirit wear while traveling Remain seated and maintain respectful bus behavior No food or drinks that may spill on buses unless approved by coaches. Music, headphones, and conversation are fine — as long as behavior stays appropriate and team-focused. 2. Warm-Up, Check-In & Event Readiness Athletes are expected to: Stay with their training group or event squad Begin warm-ups when directed by coaches Know their event times and check-in locations Report to the clerk / staging on time Tell a coach before leaving the team area There should never be a time where coaches do not know where an athlete is. Athletes must be competition-ready when events are called. 3. Team Conduct & Program Standards While at away meets: Be respectful toward host schools, officials, athletes, and staff No negative comments toward other teams or teammates Use appropriate language at all times Demonstrate sportsmanship before and after every event Keep the team camp area clean and organized Phones may be used only when not warming up, competing, or checking in. Athletes should remain engaged and supportive — not isolated from the team. 4. Supporting Teammates & Program Culture All athletes are expected to: Cheer for CHS teammates during events Encourage athletes across event groups Celebrate effort, improvement, and performance Be positive role models in front of younger athletes We compete together. We win together. We represent the Storm together. 5. Nutrition, Hydration & Recovery Athletes should: Bring water and sports-appropriate snacks Avoid heavy food before competition Fuel between events when appropriate Recover after events with light movement / stretching Fast food, soda, or junk food should wait until after the meet unless otherwise directed. 6. End-of-Meet Expectations Athletes must: Check out with their event coach or head coach Help clean the team area Remain until the team is dismissed Athletes returning home with a parent must: Have prior coach/AD approval Be signed out in person by the parent No athlete leaves without coach confirmation. 7. Program Purpose & Standard Away meets help athletes develop: Personal responsibility Independence & maturity Competitive confidence Pride in representing CHS Team-first mindset Every meet is an opportunity to compete with character, class, and Storm Pride.
