Saline, MI — Saline hosted the Freshman/Sophomore Track Town Showdown and saw a strong showing from both the boys and girls teams, highlighted by event wins, relay success, and a wave of personal best performances across all event groups.
Girls Highlights
The girls squad had an outstanding day, led by multiple event champions and dominant relay performances.
On the track, Janaye Sifuna led the way with a win in the 100m (13.57) and helped power the 4x100 relay to a 1st place finish (55.15) alongside Eden Kresnak, Aviana Stackhouse, and Elle Robinson. The sprint group continued to shine with Amelia Lorch taking 3rd in the 200m (28.45).
In the distance events, Saline controlled the meet. Ruby Giddings captured the 800m title (2:31.05), while Caroline Cotner led a dominant sweep in the freshman 1600m, winning in 5:48.95 with teammates Isabelle Calati (2nd) and Addyson Irish-Rogers (3rd) completing the podium. The 4x400 relay team (Giddings, Tomaszewski, Cotner, Arvai) added another win in 4:32.27, and the 4x800 relay secured 2nd place.
Field events added valuable points, with Ella Orloff earning a 2nd place finish in discus (85'11" PB) and Jenna Sweet taking 2nd in high jump.
Boys Highlights
The boys team showed strong depth, particularly in relays, hurdles, and field events.
The sprint group was led by Jack Spurry, who took 2nd in the 100m (12.31), while Brody Albelo ran a personal best 12.55 in the freshman race. In the 200m, Myles Ogdahl and Jack Southward both recorded personal bests.
In the hurdles, Will Schmidt delivered one of the top performances of the day, finishing 3rd in the 300m hurdles (47.05 PB) and adding a 6th place finish in the 110m hurdles.
Relay teams were a major strength. The 4x100 A team (Huber, Olsen, Preston, Kangas) placed 2nd (46.29), while the 4x200 A team (Blaney, Ogdahl, Preston, Spurry) earned 3rd (1:38.73). Multiple relay squads placed in the top heats, showcasing depth across the roster.
In the field events, Kevin Huber had a standout performance, taking 2nd in long jump with a personal best of 18'6.75". In the throws, Bryan Michels led the way with a 6th place finish in shot put (34'4.5" PB), while Philip Neiman recorded a personal best in discus. Kaden Lovejoy added a podium finish in pole vault (3rd, 8'6").
Overall Takeaways
This meet was exactly what a freshman/sophomore showcase should be—competitive, developmental, and full of growth. Across both teams, athletes demonstrated improving race execution, technical progress in field events, and strong team energy throughout the meet.
Most importantly, the number of personal bests across the board reflects the work being put in at practice and signals a bright future for the program.
Saline continues to build momentum as these young athletes gain experience and confidence moving deeper into the season.
