Ann Arbor, MI — Saline closed out the league championship meet with a strong all-around performance, finishing 2nd overall on the boys side and 3rd overall on the girls side against one of the toughest leagues in the state. The Hornets combined event wins, personal bests, and clutch relay performances throughout the night to cap off an impressive championship effort.
On the boys side, distance dominance led the way. Wes Rogan captured the league title in the 800m with a winning time of 1:56.53, while Jacob Szalay doubled back to win the 1600m in 4:16.22 and place third in the 3200m. Brennan Larusso added a huge runner-up finish in the 1600m with a personal best 4:19.12.
Sophomore standout Chanon Palmer had one of the top performances of the meet, sweeping both hurdle events. Palmer won the 110 hurdles in 14.72 and followed it up with a personal best 38.18 to claim the 300 hurdle title. He also helped power the boys 4x200 relay to a third-place finish alongside Cruz Hanson, Mason Kangas, and Jack Walden.
Hanson delivered another major performance in the open 400m, placing second overall with a season-best 49.98. In the field events, Alexander Stockton earned a league championship in the high jump, clearing 6-0, and added a third-place finish in long jump.
The girls team answered with multiple league champions and standout relay performances. Freshman sensation Savannah Staton captured the 3200m title in a personal best 10:29.03, further improving her School Record and setting the Meet Record. While fellow freshman Addisen Freeburn placed second in both the 200m and 400m, running a personal best 1:00.24 in the quarter.
Saline’s sprint relays were among the best in the conference all night. The girls 4x200 relay team of Charlotte Warren, Freeburn, Mahalia Staton, and Katarina Munson raced to a league championship in 1:46.10, while the 4x100 relay squad finished runner-up in 51.28.
In the field events, Mimi added another league title by winning the long jump for the third time, while Amelia Lorch gave Saline a 1-2 finish with a runner-up jump of 15-2. Nova Platzer placed third in shot put with a personal best throw of 31-6.
The meet also featured numerous personal best performances from across the roster, including Kevin Huber, Jack Gates, Gavin Bast, Dezmond MacDonald, John 'Will' Schmidt, Caroline Cotner, and many others as the Hornets continued their late-season momentum heading into championship season.
