Ottawa hills It was a great day of running at the Ottawa Hills Invitational, with strong performances and noticeable improvement from both the boys and girls cross-country teams. The boys competed first, led by a top-five scoring group of Colton Mulder (16:42), Beckett Swanson (17:48), Brodie Haslett (18:02), Logan Mahan (19:07), and Travis Cornwell (19:33). Mulder, Swanson, and Haslett each recorded season-best performances. The team competed hard throughout the race, and freshman Brodie Haslett continues to make a major impact. Haslett has improved by nearly 30 seconds in each race this season and has become an important part of the boys’ lineup. The girls followed with another successful showing and made significant progress from their performance at Shepherd the previous week. The top five scorers were Ella McInerney (18:36), Chloe Mazza (19:36), Lily Sparks (22:02), Scotlyn Wistinghausen (22:37), and Jean Holland (22:38). Senior Ella McInerney led the girls with a third-place finish and a time in the 18:30s, which is exactly the type of performance the team has been working toward. Overall, the girls showed improved depth, competitiveness, and confidence at Ottawa Hills. Both teams will look to build on the momentum from this weekend as they prepare for their next meet at home on Saturday.
