Los Angeles, CA — This was our first league meet of the year. We had mixed results on the day. In the first race of the afternoon, the JV boys lost 26-30 and the JV girls lost 24-35. The highlight of that race was Michelle Hernandez coming in 1st place, beating all of the JV girls in the entire league, by over 45 seconds. The Varsity boys ran a strong and competitive race in the second slot of the afternoon, but took a tough loss 26-29. Gustavo Hernandez took 1st place in the race (and 6th place overall in the league) and Cesar Munguia finished 3rd. The last race of the day was the most exciting one - Varsity girls. We were ahead at the first split (about 3/4 mile), losing at the halfway point, and down even further at about 2.25 miles. But the team turned it on with a great finish. Michelle Chavez held on to 1st place, and the rest of the team (Mayte Hernandez, Leslie Renoj, Sharline Hernandez, Brianna Ramirez, and Neysi Alvarado) all caught and passed an RFK runner - giving us a tight 26-29 win. There were some nervous times, but the Varsity girls team extended their winning streak to 6 years (their last loss was the final week of the 2013 season).
