Wildomar, CA — Click here for a video recap of Game 2 vs. Temecula Valley - http://www.hudl.com/v/2Ffyvz The Frosh Elsinore Tiger football team lost their first home game of the 2021 season 13-21. On a sweltering hot day in Westphal Stadium, the Tigers started slow on offense and special teams and would spot the visiting Bears a 14-0 halftime lead. However, Elsinore would not go quietly, as they mounted a second half rally that fell short as Landon Spencer’s final heave to Kruse Podsiadly was intercepted. The Tigers had a slow start on offense as they punted twice and lost 2 fumbles. After some half time adjustments, the run game took over. Kamari Flanagan had a 100+ yard, 2 touchdown performance behind the strong blocking of Adrian Avila, Landon Hawkins and Adrian Macias. It seemed like the Tigers were just missing one “Home Run” pass play to get them over the hump. Defensively, the Tigers turned in a very strong effort. The defensive line of Avila, Macias, and Joaquin Matias as well as Linebacker Hawkins and Strong Safety Adrian Stankevich held the Bears to 15 yards rushing and harassed their QB all day. Matias’ second consecutive game with a Sack/Fumble combo and a big interception by Safety Hayden Hughes highlighted the effort along with big time hits on the Temecula QB by Hawkins and Stankevich. The defense gave up 150 yards, but 100 of them came on 2 big pass plays. If the Tigers can limit these big plays, look for this group to keep them in every game this season. Expect the Tigers to band together after winning the second half last week. This temporary setback will provide good lessons for our team to learn in order to make a comeback on the road this week. The Tigers will travel to Huntington Beach on Thursday, September 2 at 4 PM to take on the Vikings of Marina High School.
