Irvine, CA — It was a nail biter but the girls pulled it out! Set 1 was pure dominance with the girls going a combined 24/25 serving with 5 aces, highlighted by a 12 serve, 11 point run by Ella Keefe. The passing was the best I have seen so far this year. They played most of the game inside the 10 foot line. I can't forget about the monster front row the twin towers and Morgan put together with some key blocks. Set 1 was very impressive and showed what our girls can do when fundamental passing is done. Set 2 and 3 were a little different story. Most of the game was played outside of the 10 foot line, which usually spells disaster. Passing was rough and serving fell a bit but was still above 85% for the team. Set 4 was up for grabs - who wanted it more? Our serving number went back to what they were in set 1 going 23/24 with 4 aces. Passing got better and in the end, they pulled it out. Set 5 was a carbon copy of set 1 to start, jumping out to an 8 point lead. They rattled a little in the middle but then put it all together for an impressive victory - serving 100% as a team in set 5. The twin towers also flexed their muscles in the 5th set with more key front row play! Some key serving stats for the day 3 girls with 10 or more serves went 100% Janelle - 10/10 with 2 aces Brenna - 12/12 with 2 aces Ruby 16/16 with 2 aces Ella had an impressive serving day as well going 21/23 with 5 aces and of course that 12 serve run! One thing for sure, if they continue to improve passing and playing within the 10 foot line, they will be a formidable opponent for anyone! GO VANGUARDS!
