Placentia, CA — Another W in the Win column for the ladies of ElMo. This one didn't quite have the dominant play that we saw vs. Irvine, however they found a way to put it together. Dominant or not, it shows up the same on the scorecard! Set 1 Set 1 was a struggle for the most part. Fundamental play just didn't seem to be there. Passing was lacking so there was very little play inside the 10 foot line, which in turn means very little offense. However, just when it looked like we would start 0-1, 2 big serving runs by Ella and Janelle helped lock in a 25-23 victory. Set 2 Set 2 was more like the team we hope to see. Passing improved dramatically. Most of the set was played inside the 10 foot line so our hitters were able to be much more aggressive. In particular, Bella really started to pound the ball. Also, Aubrey's defense was very strong in this set, helping to go up 2-0 with a score of 25-18. Set 3 I still cannot explain what happened in set 3. Our girls looked good, but somehow let this set slip away. At one point it was 24-20 and it looked like we would leave 3-0, but a quick 6 point run from Valencia changed that. Set 4 This set started very strong. Serving as a team was 23/24 and the passing was back to strong, allowing for the aggressive offense we saw in set 2, with Katlyn joining in the pounding from the outside. This set was pretty much a runaway leading the girls to a 3-1 total victory for the day with a final score of 25-13. And we cannot leave out the final game winning point from Gabby - video is posted on game page. Key Highlights For me personally, the strong offensive play from Bella and the strong defense from Aubrey really shined today! Ella is still having a great serving run going 20/22 with 2 aces. There were 3 girls with more than 10 attempts that went 100% Juliet - 15/15 with 3 Aces Janelle - 16/16 with 1 Ace Aubrey - 21/21 with 2 Aces With Ella, Brenna, and Ruby all 90% or better for the day.
