Dana Point, CA — It’s been a long time coming, never having played Dana Hills at JV or Varsity levels, and our JV team fought hard for that inaugural win this afternoon, just missing by a score of 8 - 10. A little unbalanced today, with only 2 set wins from singles, whilst winning 6 doubles sets. Line #1 singles player, Nicole Griffith, bowed out with an ankle injury after a tough opening set vs the top Dolphin; Maddy Valente stepped up and played well in her place. Katherine Dygean, line 3 singles, was a tiebreak away from winning both sets played, as she battled their top player to a 5-5 tie before losing the TB. Solid effort today, Katherine. Ava Hetland, again, had a marathon first round match, winning a TB set: 6-5 (10-8) against a very consistent and evenly matched line #2 player. MVP Taylor Mindte joined the 100% club, winning both sets played: one with Sofia Recupero, one with Natalie Walters. Nice! MVP Erica Gonzalez joined the 100% club as well, posting 2 set wins with different partners: Olivia Nowlan and Fionnuala McClain. Well played ladies. Also joining the 100% club this afternoon, kudos to MVP 9th grader Alma Bayat, winning at line #1 doubles with Cecilia Nama and Sophia Staff. Sophia and Alma had a remarkable comeback - winning 6-4 after being down 0-4 in what was arguably the best set of the afternoon. This kind of effort wins championships, which is what we are ultimately striving for. Thank you for you awesome effort ladies! Next up: Crean Lutheran at home on Wednesday.
