San Juan Capistrano, CA — Coach Wilson had her hands full with the Orahood Bros off at La Quinta, but ran a successful, all doubles match at home vs visiting Newport Harbor. Despite the lopsided scores, JSerra had some good wins, and very good efforts otherwise. As most of you can tell by now, when running an all doubles match on our home courts, teams playing on courts 4, 5, & 6 rotate and play amongst themselves, as do teams 1, 2, & 3 on the far courts. This is done in an attempt to balance out the competition. Overall, we split 2 tie-breakers in the lower half of the “draw” and, in the upper half, had 2 set wins and a handful of 4-6 and 3-6 losses. Very good effort this afternoon. Glancing at the scoresheet, looks like we had some close sets in both halves of play. MVP honors to Julianna Rough and Siena Livak, who won a tie-breaker set in the opening round vs the Sailor’s #5 team. Kudos and honorable mention to Chloe Gallaher and Evelyn Natzke who forced a tie-breaker in the final round vs Newport’s #6 team. Both our wins in the upper half of the draw came from our #1 “tripod” of MVP girls: Neeka Barkhordar, Brooke Bowman, and Faith Blower. Neeka was the only squad member to get 100% status today, winning both sets played; one with Faith (6-4 win vs line 2) and with Brooke (6-2 win vs line 3). Well played! Kudos and honorable mention goes out to Colette Chang and Jacqueline Poli who rotated up to court #1 and got 3 games off Newport’s top team. Well done! Next up: this Saturday at Huntington Beach, 10am. A & C travel squads.
