San Juan Capistrano, CA — One of the hottest days of the year on the courts, but we had a great turnout, players and parents. Thank you! All of the girls who showed up on time got to play 2 full sets this afternoon. While some of the sets closed out pretty fast, there were some good efforts over and above the 4 sets we won. Our balanced attack consisted of 2 wins in the 4, 5, & 6 line rotation groups, and 2 in the 1, 2 & 3 lines. Additionally, we had 4 other sets that closed out at either 3-6 or 4-6. We are improving! MVP honors to those who won sets in today’s all doubles format: Ava Smith and Julianna Rough outlasted a tough #5 Charger pair in the opening round in a back and forth set, winning 6-4, when the Edison girl had to retire due to heat. Thank you parents: Nurse Noorian (Bryanna’s mom), Dr. Leila Yasrebi (Neeka’s mom) and JSerra trainer Jose for all helping out our visiting friends in today’s heat. MVP honors to Gia Banks-Meeker and Maya Stroupe who picked up a convincing 2nd round win up on court 6: by a score of 6-1. (Did anyone get a pix up there?) Earning MVP honors in the upper half of the draw, kudos to Neeka Barkhordar and Kaitlyn Donner, and as well to Bryanna Noorian and Jacqueline Poli - both teams recording solid 6-2 victories, we’ll played! A huge shout out to Sydney Wood and Kendall Beuerlein who ran in the Surf City Marathon (honoring our Veterans, Service men and women, and especially today- first responders) doing a 1/2 marathon BEFORE playing tennis in today’s heat!….and neither Coach Caroline nor I heard them complain about today’s conditions. They finished up with an admirable effort getting 2 games off Edison’s top team on court #1 in the final round. Thank you Frosh / Soph players who helped out with little kids tennis this morning - you were awesome! Be sure to send me electronic forms to verify your hours. In case you missed it, Jacqueline Poli answered the riddle about San Clemente’s POST GAME TEAM MEETING… earning a free tennis lesson for her efforts.
