Rochester, MI — Despite tremendous 2nd half efforts, the JV team's fight wasn't enough. Dewitt Panthers scored first within the first 3 minutes into the 1st Q with a successful 2 point conversion, which seemed to be a pattern for the Panthers. The Panthers started the 2nd Q with a blocked punt that led to their 2nd TD & 2 point conversion of the night. The Panthers continued to cause issues for the Highlanders' defense, scoring once more before half time, leaving the Highlanders unable to answer with a 28-0 half time score. The 2nd half the Highlanders came out with a fight! King was under center and scored early in the 3rd Q with a QB keep, with an extra point good by Watters. 28-7 Plentis continued the spark for the Highlanders with an on-site recovery. King had a huge run to set up Heppner for his first TD. Another extra point by Watters put the Highlanders in reach with a score of 28-14. Highlanders defense came alive with a huge tackle by Stevanovski on a kick return, followed by Hart causing a turnover with a recovery by the Highlanders. Heppner ended the 3rd Q with long carry into the endzone - shortening the difference to 28-20. Unfortunately, Panthers answered early in the 4th Q with a TD (with of course another 2 point conversion) increasing their lead to 36-20. Anderjack connects with Ferris, then again with Stevanovski for a TD and a 2 point conversion by Heppner. Once again the Highlanders were within reach. 36-28 Even though Limke came up with some big tackles, Panthers managed to score again, with another 2 point conversion, increasing their lead to 44-28. Highlanders fight didn't stop. Anderjack connects with Heppner twice before scoring on a QB keep. With an unsuccessful 2 point conversion by the Highlanders, the Panthers lead 44-34. The final TD of the game was by the Panthers, leaving the final score 50-34.
