San Juan Capistrano, CA — RECAP FROSH VS ALISO NIGUEL Missing four top players and splitting the remaining teams into 2 groups, left the frosh squad hosting Aliso Niguel today with an uphill battle. Coach Keith traveled with the other half of the Frosh team to Ft Valley, ‘Kamera man’ Koach Kirk remained at home and got some good action shots of the team. The Lady Lions competed very well and the crowd was definitely entertained with some close matches and good sound tennis. Coach Wilson paired the girls up and was able to get 16 girls rotated in to this ‘Friday Friendly’. One thing that was mentioned by our singles players was that we rarely get to play singles and it was difficult change to do so, Koach agreed. We concentrate on doubles and play mostly doubles when we host, due to large numbers. “Right now it is a chore to compete in USTA or UTR events, due to our impacted schedule, but, that is where the girls would get their singles reps in. When the season is over, most girls won’t play any doubles until next Fall, which hurts a program that has 2/3 playing at any given time.” “I saw some long rallies today”, said Koach, “the scores were not indicative of how close some of these seemingly lopsided matches were. I am pleased with our progress.” Molly played a superb singles set, eeking out at tightly-contested 6 – 4 victory. In other singles sets, Juliana, Mary and Ava had some well-structured long rally’s. Doubles today was the big crowd pleaser as their courts are located towards the JSerra section… Gia and Abbey picked up the lone doubles victory, 6 – 3 right in front of the Rowdy Rooters. They jumped out to a big lead against Aliso’s line #2 duo and never let up. “I don’t know which squads are scheduled to visit the Wolverines in a couple of weeks, but, I am pretty confident the outcome will be more favorable," says Koach. A Frosh team is headed to Newport Harbor tomorrow for a ‘war by the shore’! 2:30 start! Come join the fun! GO LIONS
