San Juan Capistrano, CA — Well, he was almost right... not the whole story.. The first match in this "home and away" was played up in Fullerton, the Lions missing four of their top players, still managed a 15 - 3 victory. Today's goal was a 12-0 lead going in to round three where coach planned to sub anyone present. Those subs totaled 5 student-athletes who came in and mopped up in the late innings, sweeping 3 singles sets and 1 doubles sets; earning all 5 girls MVP honors! Ordinarily, late inning subs end up paired against the opponents best players [by rotation] and do not fare so well. KOach says, "Obviously, everyone who stepped on the courts today were MVPs as the score shows. Our starters all won 2 of 2 sets save one, which normally would garner them MVP status, I just decided to mix it up a bit.... I have never seen 5 subs go in and sweep like this! Very exciting!" These student-athletes were/are Sophia Gonzales, Julia Harkins, Ava Serentelos, in the singles spots, while the Sister Act; Delara and Natalia Gitibin were solid today! Starters today, who picked up the first 11 points were, singles players Elise Early, Halle Parker, and Olivia Morris, while Kylie Davidson/Sophie Moncur, and Anna Ciraci/Aerin Fraize, added 6 sets total, with Jazmine Aftabi/Gabbi Basa sweeping 2 before being subbed out. The girls travel to OLu Thursday for a tough rematch the Lancers before hosting Mater Dei in the league finale. Should the Lions be successful vs OLu, Monday's match will be for the league Championship! Go Lions!
