Fullerton, CA — We’re getting better! After winning 12-6 in our first match, (getting 3 free sets from a short-handed Rosary team) we won 13-5 after giving up 4 free sets this afternoon, going up to Fullerton Tennis Center with 4 players, eventually 8. So, on court, we basically tied 9-9 in September, but won on court today 13-1 ! Singles are singles, but championships are won by depth and strength in doubles; and those coming to practices are learning to play better doubles, and it’s paying off. Lauren Walcott, straight from a math class teamed with Sofia Recupero, who rushed to match from a junior retreat narrowly lost to Rosary’s #1 team, but easily beat their #2 team in the final round. Doubles teams of Madison Valente with Erica Gonzalez and Hailey Klein with Fionnuala McClain each swept all 3 Rosary doubles teams, giving us 6 more wins in doubles play. These 4 players received MVP honors for their perfect records today. Well done ladies. Our 2 standouts in singles today: Alma Bayat and Ava Hetland, each won all 3 singles sets played, earning MVP honors as well. Next up: Orange Lutheran at home Thursday, Oct. 21 at 2:30pm.
